From the time I was young, I knew I had a gift for public relations and publicity. When I was growing up, my dad owned a very prestigious ad agency. From the time I was 12, I worked there in the summers and the staff would teach me everything I needed to know in each department, from traffic to media to public relations. I followed that career path in both undergraduate and graduate school.

All of my education and experience helped me realize that I have an innate talent: the ability to look at a business and know exactly how best to promote it. I see the hook. I see the angle. And for me, it’s like breathing. When I talk to my clients, I can see their potential and what makes them unique. Then, I tell their story in a way that is newsworthy and generates media interest. The best part is that I get to build each client’s credibility because at the end of the day, credibility is the key to lasting success.

My career path has been an interesting one. I have experience in promoting special events such as the Detroit Grand Prix and Montreux Jazz Festival. I even ran the press room for the Michigan State Fair. I also worked as the director of public relations for the Berline Group in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. It was the president of the Berline Group who saw my potential and encouraged me to go out on my own. This year, I am celebrating 23 years as a business owner and I love what I do.

On a personal note, I am the mom of two fabulous young adults who both live out west. Family time is something extraordinarily important to me. That became even more relevant to me 12 years ago when I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I remember the fear of not knowing if the cancer had spread or not. Following treatment, I was deeply relieved to learn that it had not. That experience was a game changer for me, one that continues to resonate each day of my life. It taught me about perspective and to focus on things that are truly important and the things that make you happy. It also led me to embrace holistic modalities like meditation, Reiki therapy, acupuncture and energy work.

I also believe deeply in giving back. After my cancer diagnosis, I became very involved with a nonprofit organization called Imerman Angels. They believe in providing one-on-one support for people who have been diagnosed with cancer, matching them up with cancer survivors for mentoring and support. It has been an honor for me to be an ambassador, a board member, and an Imerman Angel’s mentor, for other people going through the type of cancer I had.
